Amy Dowden has thanked her fans for their outpouring of support after she underwent another procedure amid her breast cancer battle.

The Strictly Come Dancing pro underwent a single mastectomy to treat stage three breast cancer after she was first diagnosed in May.

But last month, Dowden was told she needed chemotherapy after further tumours were discovered following the surgery.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the 32-year-old told her followers she was “not looking forward” to getting fitted for a chemotherapy port as she posed for hospital selfie which showed her wearing a hospital gown and a face mask.

She wrote over the photo: “Really not looking forward to this! Another scar this one only [an] inch long but will always remind me and will always be [visible].”

Dowden later shared a series of photos from the procedure, and wrote in the caption that she wanted to share her journey as she undergoes the treatment to “hopefully get others checking and for understanding what we go through”.

“Wasn’t looking forward to it. Wasn’t easy... My veins! Feeling tender, bruised and sore but the port will help massively over the next few weeks and allow me to dance when I feel well enough.

“A port sits under the skin and the tube goes along my vein to the heart giving safe access for chemo (I believe. I’m no doctor!).”

After her procedure, she thanked her friends and followers for all their support as she reflected on a difficult seven weeks for her health since undergoing her mastectomy.

Taking to her Instagram Story, she wrote: “Thanks for all the comments and messages today! I’ve sat here tonight and thought, wow my body has been through so much in the past 6-7 weeks.

“Mastectomy, fertility treatment due to the next few stages, a little Crohns flare up and now chemo and hormone treatment,” she continued.

“Just shows when you need to be you can be strong, stronger than you think is possible. It’s certainly changed my outlook on life and I just need to push through these next few months and I’m determined I will.

“But has also shown me how lucky I am to have so many loved ones around me and the support from you guys! Thank you! It means so much and has helped me these last few weeks more than you will ever know.

“Now please remember to check yourselves”.
