Alonso gives Massa no guarantee

Fernando Alonso refused to be drawn on whether he would replicate Felipe Massa's German Grand Prix generosity if he was ever asked to move aside for his Ferrari team-mate.

Massa magnanimously gave up victory on Sunday in the German Grand Prix, a year to the day after nearly losing his life, by moving over and allowing Alonso to claim the win.

It was a controversial move but given the opportunity to state he would do the same for Massa should the situation potentially arise in the future, Massa said: "Every race is different, different circumstances, possibilities and we will decide for the best. We race for Ferrari and we know what we have to do."

Alonso played a firm straight bat to virtually every question that was thrown at him, attempting consistently to swerve away from the subject that has overshadowed the sport.

Asked if being Ferrari's number one driver would give him the edge in the title race, Alonso replied: "There is not a number one and number two driver. It's more about respect for each other, about respect of racing for the Scuderia, which means a lot.

"What happened is in the past, and we have nothing to say any more. We said everything in Germany."

It was a typical stock answer, one he trotted out again when it was put to him that a couple of other drivers had suggested if he were to win the title, it would be done so unfairly.

"As I've said, I've nothing really to say about any team, polemics, any opinion from anyone," said Alonso. "There are many opinions, many things have been said in the last couple of days.

"The only important thing for us is that the car is competitive and we can do well here in Hungary.

"If other people have opinions then we respect them, but we are concentrating on our job."
