CJ Ujah has pulled out of Britain’s team for this month’s World Athletics Championships with a back injury, just 48 hours after being named in the 4x100metres relay squad.

The Londoner was part of the quartet who sealed a surprise gold over the USA and Jamaica at the last World Championships in London two years ago, but today he announced: “Due to a back injury, I’ve decided to withdraw from the World Championships.

"It’s been a difficult decision to come to. Good luck to my team-mates.”

As a result, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey has been added to the team, giving Team GB selectors the option of seven sprinters to choose from across the rounds in Doha.

Aikines-Aryeetey will battle it out for a starting place against Ojie Edoburun, Adam Gemili and Zharnel Hughes, all of whom compete individually over the 100m, as well as Miguel Francis, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, who was also part of the quartet to win gold back at London 2017.
