Battle at the Bridge: United stars in furious altercation with Chelsea stewards

The ground has emptied but the action is far from over

It was billed as the Battle of the Bridge, and yesterday's top-of-the-table clash at Stamford Bridge lived up to its pre-publicity even after the final whistle had been blown and the fans had left the stadium. Manchester United first-team stars Carlos Tevez, Paul Scholes and Ji-Sung Park become embroiled in a furious altercation with Chelsea stewards and groundstaff after being asked to move off the pitch despite being involved in a routine warm-down.

France and England at war again

The row quickly escalates and, despite Chelsea denying anyone from the club was involved, here a member of the groundstaff is seen to be aiming a punch at Manchester United's French full-back Patrice Evra

Evra, rested for the match ahead of United's Champions League semi-final second leg with Barcelona, appears stunned by the attack and will be relieved Chelsea are 'studying the relevant CCTV footage and will be considering the appropriate course of action'

Never mind warming down, now Evra needs to calm down
