Becks is a Beijing hit

14 April 2012

David Beckham mania was still gripping China this morning when the England captain arrived in Beijing for his first Real Madrid match against an all-star Chinese team tomorrow.

Hundreds of fans waiting outside Real Madrid's hotel in central Beijing held up pictures of Beckham and chanted "David come out!" when the former Manchester United star and his team-mates arrived before dawn.

The Beijing Hotel where Madrid are staying plan to auction pillows, pajamas and other items used by Beckham during his stay.

Real striker Ronaldo has praised Beckham's passing skills and denied any rivalry with the midfielder.

"It's a meaningless comparison," he said. "It is not important. I follow what I want and what I want is to continue to win.

"I've noticed his passes are very good and I hope we will understand each other during our matches."

Beckham makes his Real debut against Dragon Team, a select squad of Chinese professionals, tomorrow in the first of four friendlies on their Asian tour.
