Berrigan to leave Hull

Hull have agreed to release former Australia international Shaun Berrigan from the final year of his contract.

The 32-year-old hooker was three years into a four-year stay with the club, but has now been given permission to return to the NRL where he is expected to sign for either the Gold Coast Titans or the New Zealand Warriors.

Berrigan made 74 appearances for the KC Stadium outfit since joining from Brisbane ahead of the 2008 season, and won the club's player-of-the-year award in his debut campaign which included an appearance in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley. He has struggled for form since then, though, and has often been forced to play out of position to cover injuries.

His departure means that Hull have a vacant place on their overseas quota for the 2011 season.

"I have loved my time at Hull FC and leave with many happy memories and friendships," Berrigan said.

"After a tough year personally in terms of injuries and the passing of my father earlier this year, I want to move closer to my mum and family and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them."

Hull's chief executive James Rule added: "On behalf of the directors, staff, coaches, players and fans, I would like to thank Shaun for his contribution to Hull FC and wish him and his family the best of luck for the future."
