Tyson Fury knows he can handle Deontay Wilder’s biggest punches, says David Haye

David Haye says Tyson Fury can be an even better fighter in a rematch with Deontay Wilder and will also have a huge advantage after surviving the American’s biggest punches.

The heavyweights are likely to meet again next spring following their controversial draw in Los Angeles.

And former world champion Haye believes Fury can improve after confounding Wilder with his skills and twice getting up following knockdowns late in the fight. Haye said: “If this is how good Tyson can be having been through all the issues with depression, alcohol and drugs he has suffered, and after just two mediocre warm-up fights, how much better can he be if he stays on the right track? If he stays in the gym and is focused and dedicated he can just get better and better. He took two of the best shots from the hardest-punching boxer on the planet and got up again. He knows now that he can take Wilder’s biggest shots. It is a huge mental card to take into the rematch. It was the performance of Tyson’s life.”

The result makes the Wilder-Fury return the biggest forthcoming date in the division. Four-belt champion Anthony Joshua is set to box next at Wembley on April 13, with a rematch against Dillian Whyte likely. But first Whyte must win his rematch against Dereck Chisora, who is promoted by Haye, at the O2 Arena on December 22. Haye added: “Dereck can really throw a spanner in the works.”
