Burton given buying power

13 April 2012

Wimbledon manager Terry Burton hopes to bolster his squad by bringing in two new players before this month's transfer deadline.

Burton off-loaded another of his highly paid stars when he sold Marcus Gayle to Rangers for £1 million yesterday.

He said: "I am hoping to spend the money we got for Marcus on a couple of players before the deadline.

"Marcus has not been in the best of form this season and has been in and out of the side. He was only a fringe player and was on big money."

Gayle's departure means Burton will have to make a change from the side which drew 0-0 at Gillingham on Tuesday for the Selhurst Park derby against Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Winger Gareth Ainsworth is again ruled out because of a broken wrist.

Palace manager Alan Smith must decide whether to restore top scorer Clinton Morrison to the starting line-up in a bid to halt a run of four defeats.

The striker was left on the bench for the 2-1 home defeat to Birmingham and Smith admitted: "He hasn't been playing well which is a problem for me because he is one of our most important players and he knows how much I think of him."

Smith has doubts over Simon Rodger (knee) and Craig Harrison (shoulder), while transfer-listed midfielder Jamie Pollock serves the last game of his three-match ban.
