Button toasts Montreal triumph

Jenson Button hailed Sunday's crazy Canadian Grand Prix victory as the best of his Formula One career.

Button's debut triumph, back in Hungary in 2006 when he came from 14th on the grid in wet conditions to take the chequered flag, was special enough after waiting 113 grands prix for the pleasure. But Sunday's triumph was epic, as in a wet race it involved six visits into the pits - five for tyres and one drive-through penalty - and accidents with McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

"My first grand prix win was pretty special, as it always will be, and it was a very similar situation with the weather," said Button, who was 21st with 43 laps remaining. "But I would personally say - and I'm going to say it because I'm emotionally attached to this win because it's just happened - it's the best one I've had in my career."

He added: "It certainly had its ups and downs, let's just say that.

"It was definitely one of those grands prix where you are nowhere, then you're somewhere, then nowhere and then somewhere.

"But as we always say the last lap is the important one to be leading and I did so for half of it. It was an amazing day, really an amazing day.

"To fight my way through from last, it's definitely my best race."

Tenacity, determination, some brilliant driving and, without a doubt, a slice of luck brought Button his 10th career win, and his first for 22 races.

That good fortune arrived around three kilometres from home of a race Sebastian Vettel had led for around 98% of the time up until that point as the reigning champion slid wide at turn six.

Button, who had reeled in the 23-year-old, had the door opened for him and he needed no second invitation.
