Campbell set for Gunners training

12 April 2012

Former captain Sol Campbell could return to training with Arsenal following his departure from Notts County.

The 35-year-old defender is currently without a club after leaving the Magpies last month. He had signed a five-year deal at Meadow Lane but played in only one game for the Coca-Cola League Two club.

"It will be great to train here and get fit," said the defender on skysports.com. "I've spoken to Arsene (Wenger), hopefully we can get everything right and speak to the right people and get a couple of the physios and fitness guys to help me and train. My overall fitness is okay. But something else might happen before then."

Campbell is still under contract with County and therefore could not formerly rejoin the Gunners, who he played for for five years before moving to Portsmouth in 2006.

Under current rules, Campbell looks set to have to wait until January to join a new club because he has already played for two sides in 2009.

But he is confident there are ways around the restrictions, although he did not go into details.

"I just want to play football in the right way but everything has to be done in the proper way," he continued. "There are ways of playing before January; I'm not going to elaborate, but there are ways. Not very soon, but there are ways.

"First of all, I've got to get out of the (County) contract, people have to sign papers. There are lots of things that have to be tied up but I think everyone understands why."
