England manager Fabio Capello in Austria to watch Croatia take on the co-hosts at Euro 2008

Fabio Capello today announced his plans to name his permanent England captain in August.

The Italian is expected to reveal his first choice skipper before England face the Czech Republic in a friendly on August 20.

So far Capello has tried out Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, David Beckham and Gareth Barry as captains and has not yet reached his final decision.

He told Sky Sports: "I have more days more to think. I have two candidates to be captain.

"I think (I will decide) in August, 10 days before the start of the new season."

Capello is preparing for the World Cup qualifiers which begin in September by following the progress of group opponents Croatia at Euro 2008.

He was in Vienna to see them beat co-hosts Austria yesterday and said: "Croatia are a very strong team because they play together a lot.

"I have to know everything about them, all their secrets. I am watching their style, the set-pieces and also the movement of the team when they have the ball and when they don't."
