Wanted: Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka has been told he should be playing at a bigger club than Bolton - by his own team-mate Ivan Campo.

Campo's comments come as Chelsea are reportedly close to clinching a big-money deal to sign the striker.

Bolton boss Gary Megson insists no offer has been received for Anelka, but Campo knows the Frenchman's talents deserve to be highlighted on a better stage.

"Anelka is a good boy and he has surprised me professionally," said Campo, who also played with Anelka at Real Madrid. "He has the quality to play in a bigger team than Bolton and he should be at a large club."

When asked yesterday if he was interested in signing Anelka or Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov, Chelsea boss Avram Grant said: "They are both players that I like.

"Our strikers are doing well. Andriy Shevchenko is much brighter and Salomon Kalou scores in almost every game.

"But a team like Chelsea should have more forwards."

Megson is determined to raise the bar at Bolton this year, starting against Derby at the Reebok Stadium tonight.

As he prepared to face the League's bottom team, he gave a damning appraisal of his side in 2007.

Megson said: "Our form has not been good enough. We played 37 Premier League games and won eight. We need to get back to the standard set a few years ago."

Megson has revealed he owes a debt of gratitude to Derby manager Paul Jewell when he had a spell out of the game.

"Paul remains a good friend and always will be. He has done me a lot of favours during the last 12 months," said the Bolton boss.

"Derby are not a mug team. They did well against Newcastle and Liverpool without getting any reward from those matches."

Megson might be tempted to shake things up as his side search for their fourth victory in front of their own supporters. Bolton full-back Nicky Hunt is a doubt with a foot injury.
