A few thousand eyebrows arched upwards when Marcel Desailly reckoned Chelsea, unconvincing winners over Manchester City, could still make the Champions League next season. The words cloud and cuckoo-land sprang to mind but the Frenchman's prediction may not be so outlandish. Assuming, as we must, that the Blues dispose of lowly Derby tomorrow, that would put them in mid-table and, with winnable matches against Middlesbrough, Bradford and Ipswich coming up, Claudio Ranieri and his team could be in the top six by Christmas. That's the theory, anyway.
