Playing hardball: Bolton are taking a tough stance over Nicolas Anelka's move to Chelsea

They refused an £11m offer earlier this week and will not lower their price despite the striker's pleas and only having one club interested.

Chelsea will not be held to ransom and were considering looking elsewhere as the 5pm deadline for Anelka signing in time to play in tomorrow's game against Tottenham neared.

Bad blood between the clubs in the transfer market appears to be making negotiations difficult.

Bolton felt they lost face when Chelsea refused to pay £3m for Tal Ben Haim a year ago, and then signed him on a free last summer.

But Anelka, once dubbed 'Le Sulk' could hold it against Bolton if the move falls through.
