Clarke comes in for England

12 April 2012

England have made one change to their starting line-up for the opening match of the NatWest Series as they attempt to end their losing run in one-day internationals.

Aiming to start the five-match series on a high, the selectors decided to make one change from the line-up beaten in Monday's Twenty20 international with Surrey's Rikki Clarke replacing Michael Yardy of Sussex for his first England appearance in two years.

Clarke will supplement an attack featuring Leicestershire's Stuart Broad, who makes his one-day international debut after an encouraging start to his England career in Bristol on Monday.

Darren Gough makes his 158th one-day international appearance a year after being dropped from England's plans alongside Lancashire's Sajid Mahmood, while Jamie Dalrymple will provide the spin option.

Chris Read also makes his first one-day international appearance in two years as England aim to claim only their fourth win in their last 17 completed one-day internationals.

Pakistan, lifted by Monday's five-wicket victory in Bristol, have kept an unchanged line-up for Sophia Gardens with Shoaib Akhtar leading a formidable attack including Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Mohammad Asif.
