Clijsters ready to make comeback

13 April 2012

Former world No1 Kim Clijsters has announced she will come out of retirement in August and has her sights set on playing at the US Open, which she won in 2005.

The 25-year-old Belgian quit in 2007 before marrying basketball player Brian Lynch and giving birth to a daughter a year ago.

But she has been training in recent weeks as she prepares to take part in an exhibition event at Wimbledon in May to test the new centre court roof.

"I have asked for wildcards for Cincinnati, Toronto and the US Open, that's all for the moment. I want to see if I can still do it," said Clijsters. "This all started with preparing for the match at Wimbledon, all pretty laid-back. I liked it that much I was onto my training schedule from my pro days and then the hunger for more comes automatically."
