Australia batsman David Warner has apologised for his Twitter outburst against two journalists who write about the team.

Warner launched a scathing attack at Malcolm Conn and Robert Craddock because he was unhappy that a photograph of him was used near a critical article written by the latter about the Indian Premier League.

Warner, who is likely to be in the Australian team for the Ashes, referred to Craddock as a “p***k” and said both writers “talk s***” but he now regrets his exchange with the writers. He said: “I wish I hadn’t used offensive language but it definitely won’t stop me speaking my mind in future. I’ll use more professional language, I’m sure of that, but I will still be voicing my opinion.”

Warner, who was fined £3,700 for his abusive comments, then explained the reasons for his anger. He said: “I was woken up at about 3.15am by people texting me. I saw my picture and then people were asking what was going on with match-fixing.

“I went on to the website to see what it was all about and then I blew up and let my frustrations get the better of me. Because I didn’t post the related article, people didn’t have a clue why I was blowing up.

“It was disappointing to have my photo pointing towards match fixing, which is something no cricketer wants to be tagged with.

“I wasn’t mentioned in the article, so I couldn’t think why my image was being used.

“After the journalists replied to my comments, I decided to fire back as well and I’m sorry if I offended anyone.”
