England can win the World Twenty20, insists Stuart Broad

Raring to go: Stuart Broad is refreshed
10 April 2012

Stuart Broad believes he is in the perfect shape to help England try and win the ICC World Twenty20.

England's first warm-up fixture for the tournament is against Bangladesh in Barbados tomorrow — and after his eight-wicket haul for Nottinghamshire last week following a month's rest, Broad is raring to go.

"I feel great. The rest was fantastic after Bangladesh to make sure the body got rid of all the niggles," said the 23-year-old pace bowler. "Then this last week it was a fantastic experience helping Notts win and get some overs under my belt.

"I feel really fresh and excited about what we can do in this tournament."

England were unable to rise to the occasion just under a year ago when they hosted the World Twenty20 — losing their opening match against Holland at Lord's, then recovering in the group stages only to be thwarted by West Indies at the Brit Oval.

But Broad insists they have made significant strides since then. "We obviously stumbled against Holland," he added. "But the great thing about this tournament is you can recover from that — and we qualified after beating Pakistan and were unfortunate losing in a rain-affected game against West Indies."

Ten months on, England are boosted by some exciting new players — specifically Michael Lumb and wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter at the top of the order.

Broad said: "I think we've got a well-balanced squad here and if we can use the knowledge we gained here last year, I think we can go far.

"Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb are exciting — we've got the players to do the business.

"This is one of the best chances an England squad has had since I've been involved in an ICC event."
