Jos Buttler says England are “grateful” to be flying to South Africa on Monday night for a white-ball tour which goes ahead despite a crisis in the governance of South African cricket.

Cricket South Africa currently has no board members and is facing further Government intervention.

There was some doubt last week whether the tour would be able to go ahead against such a backdrop, but England fly on a charter from Stansted to Cape Town on Monday night.

Captain Eoin Morgan was due to travel from the UAE, where he was holidaying after the IPL, but opted to head home first to fly with his team.

Buttler admitted it was slightly alarming to read reports that the tour was “in doubt” and that he was left “wondering what was happening”.

But England’s director of cricket Ashley Giles allayed those fears.

"I think everyone is grateful it’s going ahead,” Buttler said.  "As players it’s nothing to do with us, we are just looking forward to playing cricket.

"The boards can take care of those sort of things.”
