Middlesex Women capped an historic day at Lord's with a dramatic victory over Marylebone Cricket (MCC) in the last over of their T20 clash.

Middlesex Women's belated outing on the main pitch of the home of cricket, 85 years in the making, was part of MCC Women's Day - and the match lived up to the occasion with Middlesex hitting the winning runs with one ball to spare.

The attendance was confirmed as more than 5,000, easily trumping the previous best for a women's match in this country, 3,413.

Chasing MCC's 145 for three, Middlesex sealed a six-wicket success as Maia Bouchier finished 39 not out and captain Natasha Miles struck 38.

Hayleigh Brennan hit a boundary to finish the job from the penultimate delivery of the match.

Bhavika Gajipra earlier claimed the first Lord's wicket for a Middlesex Women bowler, while Alexandra Rogers was the day's top scorer with 72 in a losing cause.

MCC were captained by former England captain Charlotte Edwards and included World Cup winners Sarah Taylor and Georgia Elwiss in their XI.

Middlesex left it late, but won with one ball to spare as Hayleigh Brennan hit a boundary to claim a win in the final over of the match.

"This is a big thing for women’s cricket and for Middlesex," Fran Wilson had said ahead of the match.

"Most of the girls haven’t played at Lord’s, or any major ground, and it’s been a big ambition of ours.

PA

"We’ve wanted to do it for a while and have been talking about it, and how it’s a bit unfair that we haven’t. It’s not normal, so we feel privileged."
