Surrey have confirmed Australian bowler Michael Neser as their overseas signing for the first half of next season.

Neser, a consistent medium-fast bowler who is also a decent batsman, was a member of Australia’s Ashes squad this summer but did not play a Test.

He has, however, played two ODIs for Australia and has 156 first-class wickets. Neser will join Surrey until July initially.

“It has been a long-held ambition of mine to play county cricket,” said Neser. “To be able to do so at the Kia Oval alongside some fabulous players is obviously hugely exciting for me.

"I look forward to contributing and helping the guys challenge at the top of the County Championship in 2020."

Surrey have moved quickly to bolster their squad in the wake of a disappointing championship defence in 2017.

Hashim Amla is set to join on a Kolpak deal, while the unattached Reece Topley is also due to sign on.
