Watch: New Zealand cricket fan pulls off incredible catch to claim $5,000 prize

Howzat! Andrew McCulloch makes the catch

A cricket fan in New Zealand has claimed a huge cash prize after pulling off an astonishing catch.

Andrew McCulloch saw his opportunity during a Twenty20 match between Otago and Wellington when Michael Bracewell – who is the brother of McCulloch’s girlfriend – hit a six into the crowd.

Bare-footed, McCulloch raced down a grassy verge before somehow managing to secure the catch with just one hand.

After celebrating with a fellow fan, McCulloch nonchalantly returns to where he was sitting to resume his viewing of the game.

As part of a promotion at the ground, McCulloch was awarded 5,000 NZ dollars (approx. £2,500) for his efforts.

Asked what was going through his mind as he went for the catch, McCulloch responded: “Just get there.”

McCulloch’s catch isn’t the only extraordinary thing to happen at a New Zealand cricket match in the past few days – click here to watch a commentator’s reaction as a huge shot crashes into the roof of his car.
