Del Horno waiting for Chelsea development

14 April 2012

Athletic Bilbao and Spain left-back Asier del Horno admits he is in the dark about the state of his proposed move to Barclays Premiership champions Chelsea.

Chelsea and Bilbao have reportedly failed to agree a fee for the player, who is currently training with the Spain squad as they try to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals.

"I don't know what has been published in the papers in the past few days, I try and stay on the fringes, but I am a bit nervous because I don't know where I will be playing next season," Del Horno told El Correo Vasco.

"If in the end I stay at Athletic then I am going to be at home and I have always been happy there, and if I leave then I will be equally happy because I am going to one of the big clubs."

Although Del Horno claims he has not yet spoken to Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, he describes the chance of a move as a "unique opportunity".

"I am going a bit blind in all of the negotiations. Of course moving to Chelsea is a very important opportunity because it is a very big club.

"Going to Chelsea could be the chance of a lifetime and Athletic can also benefit from the move."

Del Horno, who denies he has had any contact with Real Madrid, also revealed he has spoken to several Premiership-based Spanish players, including fellow Basque Xabi Alonso, who has just won the Champions League with Liverpool.

"When we are together, we have spoken about how things are going for him over there, but I've also spoken to others such as Jose Antonio Reyes and Luis Garcia," he added.

"You have to be there to form an opinion about the Premiership, I can only give you an opinion about the Spanish league, but it seems like a tough competition.

"From the little I know about England, there are four of five teams that are very strong and very hard to play against.
