Former Manchester United and Aston Villa midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba has emerged as a target for Barclays Premier League newcomers West Brom.

Djemba-Djemba's current club, Odense, have allowed the 29-year-old to fly to England to hold talks with the Baggies, according to reports in Denmark. He has been withdrawn from their squad to face Randers on Monday night.

Odense coach Lars Olsen said: "Eric will not be involved (against Randers) because we have allowed him to travel abroad. It is for personal reasons which we cannot say more about."

Albion are insisting there is work to be done before any possible deal can be struck for Djemba-Djemba, and played down speculation that a medical is imminent.

Djemba-Djemba did not enjoy the greatest success in England after initially joining United seven years ago.

He moved to Villa after making only a handful of starts for the Red Devils in two seasons and found his opportunities similarly limited.

The Cameroon player then had a brief loan spell with Burnley before joining Qatar SC and then Odense two years ago.
