Having come from an unpromising position early in the straight, Ladbrokes promoted him to 4-1 favouritism for the St Leger.

However, providing Eagle Mountain emerges unscathed from his Epsom exploits, connections are likely to keep him at 12 furlongs for his next run.

Owner Derrick Smith said: "He ran a fantastic race. He was probably a bit further back than we liked but the winner is a very good horse, and, wherever we were, I don't think we would have beaten him.

"We were absolutely delighted with that, though, and we can look forward to some big-race wins with him now. I imagine we'll go for the Irish Derby next," he said.
