England duo retire after World Cup defeat

A pair of veteran back row forwards with more than 150 caps between them announced their retirement after England's gallant failure to break New Zealand's monopoly of the women's World Cup.

For Georgia Stevens and Helen Clayton, the 25-17 defeat in Edmonton marked the end of a long road.

Stevens, 33, said: 'We couldn't have done anything more to win the final. I'm absolutely devastated we lost but we played one of the best games of our lives and I'm just so proud of the girls.'
