England leave out Monty

12 April 2012

Monty Panesar was dropped by England for the second NatWest Series match against West Indies at Edgbaston.

Left-arm spinner Panesar was left out with the wet conditions likely to suit seam bowling, so England opted for their other slow bowler Michael Yardy, whose superior batting ability adds depth to the lower order.

With Ryan Sidebottom fit again after a viral infection, Paul Collingwood's side showed one other change as Liam Plunkett missed out.

Collingwood won the toss and chose to bowl first in a match expected to be hit by incessant wet weather later in the day.

West Indies, who cannot afford to lose if they are to retain an interest in the series, are expected to move Shivnarine Chanderpaul up the order from number five.
