England pack in new boys

14 April 2012

England will take at least three uncapped forwards to South Africa next month and leave the majority of their potential World Cup squad out of both Tests.

Sale lock Dean Schofield, Gloucester prop Nick Wood and Saracens hooker Matt Cairns will be among those called up next week as contenders for a completely new pack to replace the one which finished the Six Nations against Wales.

Changes: Ashton has decided to bring in three uncapped players

Those eight players have been eliminated along with more than 20 others because of the Leicester-Wasps Heineken Cup Final and Bath's passage into the second-tier European Challenge Cup Final.

Head coach Brian Ashton has ruled out any question of reinforcements being flown out for the second Test in Pretoria on June 2, seven days after the first in Bloemfontein.

The Leicester-Wasps-Bath contingent will be given a month off before England go into their pre-World Cup camp on the Algarve in late June.

They will then base themselves at Bath University for their Twickenham friendlies against Wales on August 4 and France on August 11, with the French return in Marseilles seven days later.
