England snatch last gasp win

Victorious captain Martin Johnson admitted he thought England had blown it before Dan Luger's thrilling injury-time try grabbed the first win over world champions Australia in five years.  

Dan Luger's last-gasp score and Jonny Wilkinson's conversion clinched a 22-19 win in a classic encounter at Twickenham and the skipper was in no doubt as to the size of their achievement.

"It was a great win," said Johnson. "We haven't beaten them for five years and we are very happy to beat them."

But Johnson thought his men had been somewhat fortunate to win after a disappointing second-half display.

"I thought we had blown it," he said. "We played poorly in the second half, but we stuck at it."

"We have lost a lot of close games against Australia and now, although they had five of their best players missing, we have won."
