Equestrian team into bronze position

12 April 2012

William Fox-Pitt rode fastest for Great Britain to help move the team up to third in the rankings after the cross-country section of eventing in Hong Kong.

The Beas River course is the shortest ever for an Olympic three-day event and the sharp corners, coupled with the damp grass from a steady downpour on Monday morning, meant no riders were able to complete the course in the allotted eight minutes.

Daisy Dick rode first for Britain and the 36-year-old had a clear round upon Spring Along to collect 17.20 penalty points. Fox-Pitt followed up on Parkmore Ed and the pair recorded the second-fastest time of the day with eight minutes and 24 seconds, accumulating 10 points.

Germany lead the team rankings after impressive performance from their riders on Monday while Australia dropped to second.

Tina Cook rode third for Britain and scored 17.20 on Miners Frolic while Sharon Hunt, on Tankers Town, received a 20-point jumping penalty and completed her cross-country with 47.60 points.

Olympic veteran Mary King maintained her hopes of an individual medal after enjoying a clear round to score 18.00 on Call Again Cavalier and is tied for fifth overall alongside American Gina Miles with 56.10 points.
