Eriksson wants ruling on racist abuse

Sven-Goran Eriksson said today he wanted football's governing bodies to set a ruling about whether a team should be led off the pitch if they are subjected to racist abuse.

Eriksson, whose side suffered shocking abuse in their friendly against Spain last November, was adamant guidance was needed from the sport's governing bodies before taking such action.

The England coach said: "I think before taking decisions like that, FIFA and UEFA should come up with very certain rules. If you do it in a qualification game, what happens? Can we lose three points or not?

"I know racism is more important but I don't want to be responsible for not taking England to the World Cup. What I am waiting for is clear rules. I did talk to the Football Association about it but I don't know if FIFA and UEFA are working on it or not. Let's hope it does not happen."
