McLaren’s executive director Zak Brown has hinted that the team could split from Honda following their car’s latest engine failure.

Fernando Alonso, back for his first race since the Indy 500, hit out at the car’s ‘embarrassing power’ as he was forced to retire at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday night.

It was team’s tenth retirement of the season , who still await their first points of the campaign.

Speaking after the race, Alonso branded the issues a ‘team problem’ before citing Jenson Button’s performance in Monaco, where the former world champion deputised for the Spaniard.

"Jenson started last in Monaco with a power unit change. Here losing the points because of the engine problem, we will probably start last in Baku. It's tough times."

And you get the feeling that enough is enough at McLaren.

"It feels like you can probably replay this interview [Alonso’s] at the lot of races this year," said Brown, before hinting that Mclaren could split from Honda.

"Just talking about what the different options are and the different things that we can maybe do to fix this situation.

"This just kind of reinforces that we can't just sit around and wait for things to come good. We need to be proactive in that."

"We've got to see how we get over the next few races."
