Fergie: My squad will succeed

13 April 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson is revelling in the pressure as Manchester United attempt to close the 10-point gap on leaders Liverpool.

The champions have three games in hand on Rafa Benitez's side and face Middlesbrough at Old Trafford tonight.

Despite losing Rio Ferdinand to injury and Patrice Evra to suspension, Ferguson is convinced he has built a squad capable of fighting for the title again.

"There is an interesting challenge facing us but I am confident we can cope," said the Scot.

"We have not taken this on blindly. I have been planning for this pressure by creating a squad that gives me options.

"Our pool of players is getting stronger, as the younger lads mature and come in at a level where I can play them, knowing they will perform."

Brazilian full-back Rafael will feature in defence and, up front, Ferguson could bring back record signing Dimitar Berbatov after a virus ruled him out of their world club championship success in Japan.
