Ferguson - Glazers angered by Madrid

12 April 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson claims the Glazer family, the owners of Manchester United, share his determination to keep star player Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid.

United have threatened to report Real to world governing body FIFA over what they claim are attempts to unsettle Ronaldo by the Spanish giants.

"Their attitude is, 'To hell with them'," Ferguson said of the Glazers. "They'd sit a player in the stand, I'm telling you, absolutely no doubt about it, just to prove a point. Not to give in to these people."

Real have repeatedly made known their desire to sign the Portuguese winger but United are firm in their conviction the player will not be sold.

Ferguson claims the Glazers are equally unimpressed with Real and says they would keep the player even if a hypothetical situation arose where he refused to play for United.

The Scot said: "I've had a couple of meetings with the Glazers.

"They've got balls, I can tell you. I've been delighted with them in that respect."

The Glazers took over United in an £800million deal in the summer of 2005. Their arrival caused huge ructions among fans due to the debt they placed on the club.

Ferguson, however, has been delighted with the support of the Americans since their regime began.

"They've been good to this club, believe me," he added. "They have been brilliant owners."
