Fielden likely to escape punishment

13 April 2012

Wigan coach Brian Noble is confident Stuart Fielden will not face further action despite being placed on report in the Warriors' 20-12 win over Huddersfield which kept their play-off hopes alive.

Referee Steve Ganson took action late in the match after a complaint from Huddersfield centre Jamahl Lolesi over remarks he alleged had been made to him by the Great Britain star.

But after the game the Giants player withdrew the allegation, leaving Fielden unlikely to face any disciplinary action.

"I've spoken to Stuart and there's no substance in it whatsoever. I believe the player concerned has withdrawn the allegation," said Noble, who admitted he was delighted to get back to winning ways after three successive defeats.

"I'm pleased for the players because it's not been the best few weeks of their lives. Sometimes you have to win scruffy to get back on track. We've now given ourselves an opportunity to kick on.

"It was tense and nervous at times and that can stop you playing so I'm delighted for the players."

Giants coach Jon Sharp said missed chances cost them.

"It was certainly a physical game and both sides were really aggressive. There was no quarter asked or given," he said.

"I'm proud of the players and the way we played. Defensively I felt we were magnificent and when we did get a little bit of field position we created some opportunities but unfortunately our completion rates hurt us."
