AC Milan forward Rafael Leao is now the proud scorer of the fastest goal in Serie A history after netting just six seconds into Sunday’s meeting with Sassuolo.

The Portuguese Under-21 international charged into the penalty box and coolly slotted beyond home goalkeeper Andrea Consigli after team-mate Hakan Calhanoglu had surged straight forward from kick-off at the Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore.

Leao’s goal is officially the quickest ever scored in the illustrious history of the Italian top-flight.

For almost two decades the record had belonged to Italian striker Paolo Poggi, who notched after only eight seconds for Piacenza in a match against Fiorentina all the way back in 2001.

Boosted by that incredibly fast start in Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Pioli’s Milan - who have made an unbeaten start to the 2020/21 campaign - doubled their first-half advantage after 26 minutes through another talented youngster in Belgian midfielder Alexis Saelemaekers.
