Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain posts classy message about hospitalised Liverpool fan after injury ends World Cup dream

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expressed his devastation after being ruled out of the rest of Liverpool's season and the summer World Cup.

The midfielder was forced off after around 15 minutes of Liverpool's 5-2 win over Roma on Tuesday, with the club confirming earlier on Wednesday that his season is over due to knee ligament damage.

Despite the news, Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted his injury "pales in comparison" to the fan whose condition has been described as critical after being attacked outside Anfield shortly before the Champions League semi-final first leg at home to Roma.

Oxlade Chamberlain wrote in a Twitter post: "Absolutely devastated to have picked up that injury at such a crucial time in the season.

"Gutted I won't be able to play any further part now in our Champions League run for Liverpool, and also the World Cup with England.

"However, this all pales in comparison to how the family of the Liverpool fan badly hurt before last nights game must be feeling.

"My thoughts are with him and his loved ones."
