Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette will not be leaving the French club any time soon because the team "cannot do without players of his ability", according to president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Lacazette has developed into an integral member of Les Gones' squad, and he ended last season as Ligue 1's top scorer with 27 goals in 33 appearances.

Such form resulted in the France international finding himself on Chelsea's wishlist in the summer while reports also linked him with a move to Arsenal and, most recently, Newcastle.

Such a transfer to Stamford Bridge, and indeed the Premier League, now appears to be off the cards after the player signed a new deal with Lyon in August, and Les Gones president Aulas has now reiterated that the striker will not be sold in the near future.

When questioned about the rumours that clubs in England want Lacazette, Aulas said: "I am confident that he will return to his highest level and I have a feeling he will be the first goalscorer in the new stadium.

"He will be here for some time because Lyon cannot do without players of his ability."

Lyon currently sit in ninth place in the Ligue 1 standings, five points off third-place Angers who currently occupy the final Champions League spot in France.
