Antonio Conte reveals struggles with long-term Chelsea project amid job security fears

Antonio Conte believes it is now hard for any manager to instigate a long-term plan because clubs give them such little time.

Conte was furious at the news that Claudio Ranieri was sacked last week, less than nine months after taking Leicester to a shock Premier League title triumph.

The former Italy coach is firmly on course to take Chelsea to the League trophy this term in his first season in charge.

Conte was given a three-year deal when he joined last summer, but admits it's difficult to have a plan for the future in place when job security can be under threat after a few bad results.

He said: "I think in this type of modern football, it's not easy to start a project and to be sure you will stay a long time in the same team. But honestly not only for me, for all coaches.

"If you have the possibility to stay for many years in the same team, then you can work to improve your idea, to improve your players, but the result in football is very important.

"We all know this, and we know it can happen, that one season, you can win the title, the next season you can go away."

Meanwhile, Conte insists he will always be up front with his players when it comes to team selection.

The 46-year-old has made a number of bold decisions during the campaign, including leaving veteran captain John Terry out on a regular basis.

He added: "In the season I like to have lots of conversation with players - for me this is the first season, I'm knowing these players and they are learning to know me also.

"And for this it's important to have a good conversation with all the players. To try always to be honest.

"I prefer to always tell a better truth than a good lie."
