Arsenal and Liverpool must wait to sign Thomas Lemar, say Monaco

Arsenal and Liverpool have been told a move for Monaco star Thomas Lemar will "100 per cent" not happen in January.

The Gunners came close to signing the Lemar on the summer transfer deadline day but were unable to finalise the move, forcing Alexis Sanchez to pull out of a switch to Manchester City before eventually joining Manchester United this month.

Liverpool have been linked with interest in Lemar as they look to replace the attacking talents of Philippe Coutinho, but Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev insists the 22-year-old will not be sold in this transfer window.

With Wednesday's 11pm deadline fast approaching, it seems both Liverpool and Arsenal will have to wait until the summer if they still wish to sign the France international.

"He will stay at Monaco until the end of the season 100 per cent," Vasilyev told RMC, a French radio station.

"If Liverpool or Arsenal come with a big offer before the end of the market? This is not relevant.

"We will say 'no' because the objectives are clear. Without important players like Lemar, we will not succeed."
