Arsenal fans dealt tough travel hand ahead of busy festive fixture schedule

Arsenal fans have been dealt an extremely difficult hand following the confirmation of the TV listings for the Premier League’s typically frantic festive fixture schedule.

While a number of fanbases will rightly feel hard done by, it’s hard not to have sympathy with Arsenal supporters in particular.

December begins with two late kick-offs in the North West. On Thursday December 2, Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Manchester United for an 8:15pm GMT clash, only to make a similar journey up to Everton four days later (December 6th) for a game that starts at 8pm.

Although welcome, two home games that see Southampton and West Ham United arrive at Emirates Stadium on December 15 and 18 respectively will do little to make two lengthy trips in the build-up to Christmas any easier.

Saturday December 18 sees Arsenal visit Leeds United in a 5:30pm kick-off and Boxing Day (December 26th) means a 230-mile round trip to Norwich City for a 3pm affair.

The schedule and dearth of accessible travel options in many cases will naturally cause further concerns about how match match-going fans (infamously referred to as “legacy fans” during the European Super League scandal) are treated ahead of a fan-led review into football governance due to be published by Conservative MP Tracey Crouch in the next few days.
