Arsenal lose 'Invincibles' branding ahead of 20-year anniversary’ as Jens Lehmann buys trademark

The former goalkeeper is looking to capitalise on renewed interest with events and merchandise

Arsenal have lost the branding rights to the term ‘Invincibles’ after their former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann bought the trademark.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Lehmann revealed he had purchased the trademark for £30,000 back in 2022.

The German says he made the move as he realised the tag would become more popular ahead of the Invicibles side’s 20th anniversary this year.

The Arsenal team from the 2003-04 season, which Lehmann played in goal for, is one of the most famous in Premier League history after they went the whole campaign unbeaten.

Lehmann now has the legal right to stop any other brand calling themselves ‘The Invincibles’, including Arsenal.

The former goalkeeper is setting up a company with his 27 former team-mates and 12 coaching staff, including Arsene Wenger, to hold events and sell commemorative items. Production companies have also enquired about making a documentary.

“I had the idea because the name Invincibles becomes more and more popular approaching the 20th anniversary,” said Lehmann.

“And nobody had it. Arsenal were probably a little surprised because nobody thought about having the brand name registered. At least they know it's now being controlled.”

Arsenal’s club shop currently sells ‘Invincibles’ merchandise to fans and, asked about that, Lehmann said: “I’m aware about it.

“The lady in the shop said it sells like gold dust! It’s something we haven’t discussed yet. If the shareholders say we have to do something, yeah, we may have to do something.”
