Arsenal are the subject of a Football Association investigation after supporters threw bottles at Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne during last night’s title clash.

De Bruyne, who opened the scoring during City’s 3-1 win at Emirates Stadium, was taken off with three minutes to go and had to walk around the pitch, past thousands of Gunners fans en route to the away dugout.

Bottles were thrown at De Bruyne, who simply smiled back at the crowds, with footage capturing the Belgian kicking one away and ducking another while a third bottle hit the corner flag.

The FA are aware of the incident and are now investigating the matter, while Arsenal have vowed to punish any supporters found to be guilty.

A statement from Arsenal to Standard Sport said: “We are studying CCTV and if we are able to identify the culprits they will be subject to strict sanctions. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

De Bruyne appeared to poke fun at the situation on Instagram after the game, posting an image of him walking around the pitch with the caption: “Beer anyone?”

The 31-year-old then posted another photo of himself ducking to avoid a cup being thrown in his direction.

The victory was a huge one for City as they have now leapfrogged Arsenal to go top of the Premier League on goal difference.
