David Luiz is expected to report back for Arsenal training on Tuesday morning and should be in contention to face Tottenham on Sunday after his sickening clash of heads with Raul Jimenez.

The Wolves striker has been left in hospital with a fractured skull after colliding with Luiz on Sunday, while the Arsenal defender was forced off at half-time having been left with a cut on his forehead which bled through his bandage during the remainder of the first half.

Luiz, who was visited by club doctor Gary O’Driscoll at his home on Monday as the Arsenal squad took a day off, was cleared to continue for the rest of the first half after concussion protocols were followed, the club have insisted.

The Brazilian defender is understood to be feeling fine but will continue to be monitored by club medical staff this week.

Mikel Arteta's side having already qualified from their Europa League group, is unlikely to be risked against Rapid Vienna on Thursday and instead saved for the north London derby this weekend.
