Arsenal injury news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain facing two months on the sidelines with knee injury

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out for up to two months after sustaining a knee injury.

The England international was substituted during last week's Champions League defeat to Barcelona following a heavy clash with Javier Mascherano.

Wenger had previously said the problem would keep Oxlade-Chamberlain out for up to seven weeks, but has now extended the estimate to two months after the midfielder saw a knee specialist.

The Gunners boss said: "He will be out for six to eight weeks but he won't need surgery."

“No surgery [is needed],” added Wenger. “We feared surgery at some stage before we saw the MRI. In the end we got, on that front, positive news.

The 22-year-old will miss England's upcoming friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands, but the Gunners boss was quick to calm fears the midfielder would be ruled out of the summer's European Championships.

"The next eight weeks means March and April. He should be okay for the Euros.”
