Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Jack Wilshere will be the first of his injured attacking stars to return to action.

Wilshere suffered a hairline fracture on his ankle in the build-up to the Community Shield match against Chelsea, and has yet to return to first team action.

It had initially been suspected that the England midfielder could miss several months with the injury, however Wenger has played down fears that the tenth injury Wilshere has suffered to his ankle will be a serious one.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s game against Liverpool the Arsenal manager confirmed the 23-year-old “is making good progress”, though he will be unavailable for the visit of Brendan Rodgers’ side. The midfielder is not expected to return before England’s upcoming European qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland.

Although Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky also absent Wenger is not concerned about his squad ahead of the game.

“From the Palace game we have no injuries and we have still Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky to come back,” Wenger said. “And we have no suspensions. So we should have a similar squad for the Liverpool game.

“Rosicky is progressing nicely but he is far away. Wilshere should be the first back from those players.”
