Tomas Rosicky returned to first-team training for the first time this season on Tuesday in a further boost to Arsene Wenger’s midfield options.

The 35-year-old’s near 10 year spell at Arsenal has been consistently disrupted by injuries, with Rosicky having missed over 100 games just with knee problems during his Arsenal career.

Rosicky underwent an operation in June after picking up an injury playing for the Czech Republic in a Euro 2016 qualifier and hasn't trained with the Gunners since May.

He resumed gym work in November but has taken his time over recovery and has only just made himself available for work with the rest of the squad.

It is expected that this season will be Rosicky’s final with the club, who activated an option to renew his contract by a further twelve months last season.

Wenger hailed the return of one of his most experienced players on Monday, saying: “It is fantastic because he has been out for very long and it is good to know that a player of that calibre is back in our squad.”
