Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has wished Jamie Vardy well after failing in a bid to sign the England international.
The Gunners activated a £20million release clause in Vardy's Leicester contract and agreed a three-year deal with the striker before he opted against moving to Emirates Stadium.
Vardy had said he would wait until after Euro 2016 before making a decision on his future, but agreed a new four-year contract with Leicester this week to end Arsenal's hopes.
The Premier League winner scored 24 goals last term as the Foxes clinched an unlikely title win just four years after Vardy moved to the King power Stadium from Fleetwood Town for £1million.
“I think Leicester have made a statement and Vardy will stay. We were on the case and interested, but not more than that,” Wenger said.
“He has decided to stay at Leicester and good luck to him. He came late to the game and in fairness Leicester bought him from Fleetwood and he has been successful. He is 29 and he has chosen to stay at Leicester. You have to respect that.”
Arsene Wenger will now turn his attention to other targets, with Spain international Alvaro Morata among them.
