Emile Smith Rowe spoke of his delight at being compared to Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes following another creative performance for Arsenal.

Smith Rowe has quickly become an integral player for Mikel Arteta in recent weeks, with the 20-year-old playmaker - dubbed the ‘Croydon De Bruyne’ in some quarters - filling the void of Fenerbahce-bound Mesut Ozil.

The Arsenal academy graduate notched an assist for fellow Gunners youngster Bukayo Saka during Monday night’s 3-0 home win over Newcastle, and has been central to Arteta’s plans since a breakthrough performance in the 3-1 win over Chelsea.

According to Opta, Smith Rowe has now either scored (two) or assisted (five) in seven of his 10 appearances this season, and has already notched two more assists than any of his team-mates.

Since 26 December, only Man United talisman Fernandes has created more chances than Smith Rowe in the Premier League - and the Arsenal youngster spoke of his pride at joining such illustrious company.

Responding to the statistical comparison with Fernandes, Smith Rowe told Sky Sports: “I look up to Bruno Fernandes as a player. His stats are crazy!”
