Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of summer signing Lucas Torreira after he suffered a knock for Uruguay at the weekend.

The midfielder was substituted at half-time of his country's 4-1 friendly win over Mexico and spent the second half with an ice pack on his left calf.

Torreira, who is yet to start since joining Arsenal from Sampdoria, will be assessed ahead of the Gunners' trip to Newcastle on Saturday.

If he is not fit for St. James' Park, the 22-year-old will hope to recover in time to make his full debut as Arsenal begin their Europa League campaign against Ukrainians Vorskla a week on Thursday.
